Some people write about the world from a safe distance. Lynn McMorris has been in the middle of it.

At her core, she is a storyteller, whether writing or photographing. Everything else is in service of that.

Born in Mississippi and rooted in South Louisiana, she spent decades working the edges of life and death as a nationally registered EMT-Paramedic and critical care registered nurse. But Louisiana was never a fence. It was a launching pad.

Work and restlessness carried her from the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea to the coast of Maine, from the border with Mexico to Inuvik in Canada’s Northwest Territories. From the controlled chaos of big city trauma centers and urban medical centers to the vast, humbling silence of the Navajo Nation. She worked emergency departments, trauma centers, neonatal and pediatric ICUs, cardiac units, and the skies above Alaska as a flight nurse. She called a travel trailer home for years at a stretch, a nomad before the term became popular with our youth.

She paddled, fished, hiked, and backpacked through some of the wildest country in North America. She sat with people whose lives looked nothing like hers and found, every single time, more common ground than difference. That’s what the road teaches if you let it. A smile, genuine interest, and a patient ear is the passport that opens all doors. And behind every door, a story worth telling.

Long before the continent drew her away, she explored the backroads of Louisiana, rooting out great local restaurants, learning their stories, sharing them on EatLikeANative.com. The site is currently dormant. The appetite isn’t.

Her work has appeared in 225 Magazine, The Louisiana Sportsman, and Living in Parish Magazine. Her camera is a constant companion. She is a member of the National Press Photographers Association and the Louisiana Photographic Society, and is an FAA-certified Remote UAS Pilot.

Through her involvement with The Never Quit Never Forget Gala and the Just Cause Flag Campaign, she has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations supporting military personnel, veterans, and their families.

Muddy Water & Mischief is where all of it lands, the stories, the opinions, the mischief. Truth with a little mud on it.
